Marianne Dietz, Ph.D. student in the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, has been awarded the 2017-2018 Evelyn L. Pruitt National Fellowship for Dissertation Research by the Society of Woman Geographers, as well as a dissertation research grant from the Geological Society of America, or GSA.
The prestigious Pruitt award includes $11,000 to be applied toward Dietz’s research investigating the interaction between marine and fluvial depositional processes associated with hurricane landfalls along the Gulf Coast.
“This research is important for understanding how storms affect modern coastal landforms so that we can predict future impacts,” said Dietz.
In March, Dietz was also awarded the GSA grant, which supports graduate research in geological science at colleges and universities in North America. Dietz will use the grant to support her dissertation research. CC&E congratulates Dietz on her outstanding accomplishments.
